Hope for Widows and Orphans of Uganda

HWOU volunteer

Fourteen elderly widows and nine orphans ranging in age from 4 months to 98 years old were served through our ministry outreach, in three districts of Uganda. Food, clothing and medical care were provided as needs were assessed by Nikki, FNP, ministry outreach founder, Sarah R.N, Uganda Medical Coordinator.

Women’s ministries groups from four local churches in Mukoma, Lugazi and Sseya involving more than 100 local Ugandan Christian Men and Women have worked tirelessly to make handwoven mats for homes of the elderly to provide a means of getting the elderly and orphans off the floor in their grass and mud huts. This small addition to their living space prevents the transmission of diseases and medical issues.

Medical care included wound care for an elderly man, medical intervention for TB, hypertension, eye/ear infections. fungal infections and interventions for significant pain that many of those serving were experiencing

In future issues of Ministry Updates, we will focus on one of the elderly or orphans we are serving, and provide personal insight into their history and how our partners have made tremendous positive differences in their quality of living and spiritual wellbeing through this ministry outreach.
