HWOU volunteer

The November 2022 Team

Doug

This was Doug’s first trip to Africa.  He served our team by greeting patients and doing crowd control.  Doug became well known with the kids by handing out snap bracelets which he brought from home.

Dr Josh

Josh was born and raised in Uganda. This is his third team initiative with our ministry.  He has been a doctor for four years. He became a father for the first time just 6 weeks before this trip. To expand his professional knowledge, Joshua worked with Dr Gustavo.

Dr Rachael

Doctor Rachael has been an integral part to the foundation of this ministry.  As a pastor’s wife she helped create a network of women to reach out to the poor in their communities.  We are delighted that she has accepted our offer to work with us to establish a full time hospice care unit. Rachael will be able continue our vision clinics with the supplies and glasses we brought to Uganda

Francis

When not serving in mission work or in his church, Francis is a farmer in Kenya.  He was part of a ministry Dr Nikki founded in Kenya 20 years ago.  This is his second trip with our ministry.  He has become  a proficient assistant to Dr Gustavo in his dental clinic. He became a first time grandfather two months ago.

Dr Gustavo

Dr Gustavo has a dental practice in his home country of Honduras. This is his second trip with our ministry, though he has worked with Dr Nikki on other teams in the past.  His passion for serving Christ and heart to serve people are matched with his sense of humor.  He is known as our “selfie King”

Jacinta

Jacinta was a nurse in Kenya for over 20 years and was part of Nikki’s ministry in Kenya.  This is her second trip with our ministry. She is now a pastor at her home church and a wife and mother.

Joshua worked as a translator on our 2018 team initiative, when we partnered with Prepare the Way Ministries.  Joshua still works with Prepare the Way, a missionary organization that runs an orphanage, school and  seminary in Mukono.

Linda is a first time traveler to Africa.  She did a great job screening people for reading glasses.  She also put in hours of work before the trip making many of the handmade glasses cases we were able to offer our patients.

Mandy

This is Mandy’s first time in Africa.  She enjoyed her role as keeper of the glasses cases.  She thinks she would like to return on another trip.  Mandy joined to take advantage of an opportunity to experience a mission trip with the bonus of spending time with her mom, Lisa.
